16 Energy Efficient Buildings at the CISSS of Chaudière-Appalaches

The CISSS of Chaudière-Appalaches, Alphonse-Desjardins sector, has invested $10.6 million in order to reduce the energy consumption (34%) and the greenhouse gas emission (60%) in 16 of its buildings. The investment will be refunded in 2026, considering the energy savings of $820,00/year and the financial support of $2.8 million from Hydro-Québec, Gaz Métro, the Bureau de l’efficacité et de l’innovation énergétiques (BEIÉ), as well as the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS). Énergère has been selected to design the project, perform the work, assist the operating staff in the management of new technologies and ensure monitoring for the next 10 years.

The energy efficiency project comprises about 50 measures to achieve the above results: modernization of boiler rooms and lighting, control of air conditioning and heating systems, energy recovery and heat pumping. The work, partially completed, is to be done in a total of 16 facilities: the Hôtel-Dieu of Lévis, the CLSC Laurier-Station, the day hospital Le Cap, the administrative offices and the accommodation centers of Saint‑Sylvestre, Saint-Raphaël, Saint-Isidore, Saint-Gervais, Saint-Flavien, Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Hénédine, Sainte-Croix, Sainte-Claire, Saint-Apollinaire, Saint-Anselme and Charny.

A poster campaign entitled Energy Efficiency in Action for Health is currently underway at the Hôtel-Dieu of Lévis. The campaign will also appear in other buildings concerned with the project, starting next week. It aims to inform about the energy efficiency measures in place, the environmental objectives, the results and the benefits of the project for the community. Head to santeenergetique.ca for more information.

We would like to thank all the people involved, and also the five « effigies » of the campaign, for their valuable collaboration (left to right):

· Jean-François Begin, Orthopedic Surgeon
