The CISSS de Lanaudière has initiated a large energy-efficiency improvement project in its buildings, affecting 11 facilities, including the hospital centre and 10 residential care center.
This project represents a major step forward for several energy efficiency technologies introduced in healthcare buildings. It has helped bring the unit consumption to 1.33 GJ/m2/year in the hospital and 0.93 GJ/m2/year in the other residential care center, with respective decreases of 47 % and 26 %. The most remarkable initiatives are the conversion of steam heating to hot water heating systems and the wide-scale introduction of heat pump energy combined with geothermal energy.
