As part of its sustainable development action plan, the CHUM has undertaken a large-scale energy efficiency project at Hôpital Notre-Dame. The project carried out by Énergère involved three main phases: the complete modernization of the thermal power plant, the replacement of 13,500 lighting fixtures and the implementation of a geothermal system. The project has decreased the unit energy consumption from 2.32GJ/m2/year to 1.26 GJ/m2/year, making Hôpital Notre-Dame a model of energy-efficient performance. The objectives related to this renovation also help eliminate heavy fuel oil, reduce the burning of fossil fuels and foster the use of sustainable development technologies.
