The winners of Contech Innovation and Sustainable Development Award were unveiled during the Contech building exhibition at the Palais des congrès of Montreal. The energy efficiency project realized with Énergère at the Hôpital Notre-Dame was rewarded among eight finalists by the prize « Innovative Practices » in the ICI BUILDING category (industrial, commercial and institutional). The jury also highlighted the innovative nature of the project with a Distinction in energy efficiency.
The CHUM has undertaken, since the summer of 2012, a major energy-saving project at Hôpital Notre-Dame, in partnership with Énergère, including a thorough modernization of its mechanical infrastructure. Several innovative measures have been put in place, namely aerothermal and geothermal energy systems, energy recovery by heat pumping of internal heat losses and flue gases, as well as exhausted air heat recovery with the use of refrigeration cycles. The CHUM has committed to reduce its fossil fuel consumption by implementing sophisticated heat pumping, geothermal and aerothermal technologies, allowing the capture of renewable energy in the air (aerothermal) and the ground (geothermal) and the transfer of this energy to the building’s heating system.
