Montréal, July 3rd, 2017 – Énergère has recently won a major contract with the City of Montréal for the general management, coordination and conversion of its street lighting network of 132,500 luminaires to light-emitting diode (LED) technology.
As early as September 2017, Énergère will undertake the City of Montréal’s urban lighting network conversion to 3,000 Kelvin LED technology. “Within the next five years, citizens will benefit from improved street lighting, better suited for the metropolitan way of life. Significant savings will ensue as the City will reduce energy consumption by 35% and maintenance costs by 55%,” remarks Frédéric Gaulin, President at Énergère.
Énergère will oversee the work of numerous contractors, enable luminaire supply and logistics as well as ensure follow-up on warranties, complaints and required adjustments. The network’s modernization will also involve increased supervision of road signs and obstacles during implementation. “We are working closely with the City’s districts as to maintain the current traffic conditions in all affected areas,” indicates François Shink, Director of construction at Énergère.
This $29 million project is closely linked to Énergère’s 2016 contract with the City of Montréal to provide, install and activate a street lighting smart control system and a large-scale communications platform. That project was launched last spring. “By September 2017, 250 gateways will be implemented and the communication network will be functional, ready to control the new LED luminaires,” adds Mr Shink.
“Thanks to our great experience in energy performance and urban lighting projects, we are proud to partner with the City of Montréal for the entire conversion of its network and the implementation of a smart control system, amounting to a total investment of $57 million. For Énergère, these contracts represent a true stepping stone to our success in Québec, as well as an opportunity to develop our Smart City division in foreign markets,” concludes Mr Gaulin.
